How do I get back to God?

How do I get back to God?

Have you ever felt like God was not listening to your prayers, heaven went silent, or you were walking in the desert alone?

When you feel stuck, out of touch, and unsure of how to get back to a place of closeness with God, 2 Chronicles 7:14 provides the formula for restoration: “If my people who are called by my name, humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sins and heal their land.”

This passage outlines four key steps we must take when heaven feels shut off:

1. Humble Ourselves: We must let go of pride and the desire to control our own lives. As long as we insist on staying in the driver’s seat, our own desires shout so loudly that we cannot hear the still, small voice of God. Surrendering to Him removes the stumbling block of pride.

2. Pray and Seek: Prayer is not just about listing our demands and running away like we are at a fast-food counter. We must pause, sit in God’s presence, read the Bible, and actively listen for His guidance.

3. Turn Away from Sin: God cannot pour blessings into hands that are already full of destructive habits. We must turn away from actions that are contrary to His will and plan for our lives.

When we fulfill these steps, God promises three powerful responses: He will hear our prayers, forgive our sins completely, and heal our land—restoring peace and wholeness to the areas of our lives that have been stagnant or broken.

While this instruction was originally given to Solomon during the dedication of the temple as a prayer for the collective body of believers, it remains profoundly true for our individual lives today.

God always keeps His promises, but our restoration depends on our commitment to come back to Him when we fall short. The breakthrough we are waiting for relies on that simple word: “if.”

Prayer: Lord I humble myself before you. Forgive me of fear, pride, impatience and selfish desires that block me from receiving and hearing from you.
