Dear Explorers,
When people ask why divorce is so painful, it is because marriage is a true coming together. As Mark 10:8 (ESV) states, "and the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two but one flesh." This unity combines your vision, physical and emotional lives, and shared dreams for the future. When a divorce occurs, the pulling apart of that unity naturally causes deep pain.
Divorce brings complex layers of emotion—rejection, anger, mistrust, betrayal, shame, and guilt. It represents a broken covenant and a loss of shared identity. Healing takes time because the pain is triggered at various stages: when the divorce is requested, when papers are filed, when it is finalized, and even on specific dates or in familiar places. If children are involved, there is the additional loss of raising them together as a unit.
If you are walking through this season, I encourage you to give yourself time to heal and take the following steps:
1. Seek God and His Word: Look to Scripture for comfort and give yourself space to process your grief.
2. Reflect and Meditate: Spend time in prayer to understand what the marriage meant to you and what your hopes were.
3. Seek Guidance: Ask God for direction in the midst of present uncertainty.
4. Recognize Support: Look for the ways God is showing kindness to you through others and reminding you of His care.
Healing is available through faith, prayer, and trusting God with your pain. As 1 Peter 5:7 (ESV) reminds us, "casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you." God cares about your hurt, resentment, and rejection, and He is able to heal your broken heart and give you the grace to get through this season.
With grace and peace on to you!
