How can I Enjoy Work?

Do you find yourself in a professional rut, wondering when work will become fulfilling again, or feeling like you have lost your edge? Perhaps you are in a season where you lack motivation and dread Monday mornings, viewing your job as something to endure rather than enjoy.

How do we rediscover passion in our work, and what does scripture say about this?

In Psalms 90:16-17, Moses prays: "Let your work be shown to your servants, and your glorious power to their children. Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the works of our hands upon us; yes, establish the works of our hands!"

Contextually, Moses is praying for God to redeem and restore Israel after a period of affliction. He provides perspective by shifting the focus from immediate hardships to God's long-term plan. Verse 16 highlights how God reveals Himself and His power through His work in our lives to preserve and protect us. Following this, Moses addresses the work we are called to do.

Moses prays for God's favor to "establish the works of our hands." This means that whatever your field—whether fast food, retail, healthcare, education, or corporate—your daily efforts can have a lasting, meaningful impact on others. It is less about the type of work you do and more about how you do it. Are you working with passion, commitment, integrity, and excellence?

Impact is not always immediate. Like a seed growing roots before it breaks through the soil, the value of your work takes time to establish. Your daily contributions matter, whether you are helping a company prosper, relieving a customer's stress with a positive word, balancing a budget, or encouraging a colleague.

The next time you face Sunday night dread, ask God for His favor to establish your hands and to grant you joy in your contribution, despite the challenges. Focus on finding the good in each day and recognizing your lasting impact. When you perform your job with excellence and integrity, your light shines in the workplace.
